MDO Coal Mine CHPP Design - Odisha, India

Sprint Consultants was hired by a mine developer operator (MDO) based in Odisha, India to act as an Owners' engineer and lend our expertise towards the designs of the coal handling plants for a mine they are working on.
Challenge
The lack of expertise in India for Coal Handling Plant design as the mining sector has just begun to open up to private sector. Private operators wanting to have best in class design expertise prompted the MDO to seek out overseas expertise.
Our Solution
Sprint acted as owners' engineer, working with the MDO operator to visit the site in India, collect information, speak to the site teams and design engineers, understand the site conditions, work with relevant domain experts in Australia to vet the CHPP design provided by the owners' external consultants.
Outcome
Sprint suggested a change in the methodology of the coal reclaim in the CHPP, to go with Coal Valves instead of a bucket wheel reclaimer, resulting in CAPEX and OPEX savings for the MDO operator. The project was delivered with the help of design experts that are the best in the field, who have decades of experience in the Australian market.
